TECNO Pouvoir 4: Review, Specifications & Price

Tecno used to be the indisputable giant of the Nigerian Android market. The phone maker’s hold on the market had been waning in recent times thanks to the incursion of brands like Huawei and Redmi. With its recent slew of releases, Tecno shows no intention of taking its foot off the pedal. The Tecno Pouvoir 4 is as bold as it is big.

In this article, we review the best and the worst of this smartphone, letting you know if this device is a great fit for you.

Design

Tecno Pouvoir 4 retains the design of the Pouvoir 4 Pro which it was derived from. The first thing you can’t help but notice is the size of the device: it’s huge. With its 7-inch display, most people might consider this a tablet.

However, the bezels and chin on the device are considerably slim. The device doesn’t feel so heavy or unwieldy, considering the size. The one-hand mode on the device also makes it very easy to manage.

At the back, the fingerprint scanner is positioned just aft of the quad-camera display. It rocks a plastic body, expected for a device its price.

The SIM tray is located on the left side of the phone while the power button and volume rockers are on the right side of the device.

Display

Pouvoir 4’s display is big. They appear to be gunning for a movie-watching audience with its 7-inch display. It’s ideal for people who watch loads of videos and movies. The resolution is quite great too; 720X1640 is great for its price point.

Its IPS LCD touch screen seemed responsive enough, 20.5:9 aspect ratio gives it a considerable amount of usage area. A ppi of 246 isn’t the best, but it’s agreeable for a device like this.

Basically, it’s a great phone for you if you’re one of those people that always watch movies on their devices. It’s also great for gaming because of its large screen real estate.

Performance

There’s not anything special going on under the hood. Tecno Pouvoir 4 is powered by a Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 CPU. Don’t expect too much from it; it’ll do or your daily task and will play Call of Duty…on medium settings.

3GB of RAM enables you to switch between apps without any lag. The device is able to handle a ton of open chrome tabs without any serious issues.

It comes with a pretty small memory at 32GB, but you can expand it to up to 128GB in the microSD slot.

Camera

The Tecno Pouvoir 4 comes with the full camera complement: A 13-MP main shooter, a 2-MP wide-angle camera, a 2-MP depth sensor and a 0.3MP low light shooter.

The main sensor takes good enough photos if you have good lighting. The zoom isn’t great and the device struggles in low light settings. The cameras aren’t the best but they’ll do if you just want to occasionally update The Gram.

Battery

The battery is one of the Tecno Pouvoir 4’s selling points. It’s 6000 mAh battery is one of the biggest you’ll find anywhere. You can definitely stretch out usage on this phone over two days of normal use.

We can’t expect fast-charging for a device of its price point, but its 10W chargers do a good job of filling out the large battery in sub-2 hours.

Price

At 57,000 naira, we think the Tecno Pouvoir 4 is a pretty great deal. The smartphone is available on Konga and Jumia

Verdict

The price point is ideal if you’re not looking to shed big bucks on the phone. The phone performs quite well for its price, although the camera and performance are slightly lacking. You should get this phone if you’re in the streets a lot or you live in an area with bad power.
